Wrestling, what men do during boys basketball season. Nah, I'm just playing. Have respect for every kid who puts on the uniform in any sport. Anybody care about wrestling and have a passion for it like I do.

JJK is setting up for their 4th coach since my junior year in 2006. Coach Crutchfield( The best Coach since Coach Bates.) Coach Bates( All state football player, Jordan Bates father. Good man.) Coach Salyers (He was a fantasic football player, but ole' coach wasn't bad on the mats either.) And last but certainly not least Coach Shawn Dean. Who is gearing up this year to have a John I. Burton Raiders Wrestling team to my understanding. That is so good to me. With MMA and things wrestling is starting to expand, and I couldn't be happier. JJK won't be lost out in the cold though. Coach Luke Owens. Appalachia's old wrestling coach, state champion, and mighty fine ball player from Grundy. Going to be very interesting. I miss it every day, anybody got any news about anything?

How I'd love to hit the mats just one more time, Alumni match anyone? haha.

Heck yeah wrestling is way to overlooked it is a great sport this year Clintwood will be the only school with out a team in the LPD

Though it's not a bad thing, don't see it being too big in this area. Which means it won't be taken all to seriously with coaches, funding and such.

When Grundy Drops it will get ALOT bigger in the region

With the rising popularity of MMA and the role wrestling plays in it (and that has helped produced some of the best fighters of all time) it really would be surprising to me if high school wrestling's popularity didn't increase at least a little bit this year or the next.

Ive been hoping the Connection with MMA would help it grow for yrs. Looks like it may be growing some. Never thought APPY or Pound would have a team. So is Luke gonna be coaching at Wise?

They had a old timers match back in the mid 90's or so down in BSG. Was pretty neat.

Sorry for raining on the parade, truth hurts. It'll definitely be a tad more popular, but be 4th at best when it comes to prioritizing. Don't see it catching on in this area, footballs rules it, basketball 2nd, baseball 3rd.
